Description
Product advertisements. Sales pitches. Business proposals. Sermons. Debates. Parliamentary arguments. Political campaign speeches. Legal proceedings. Argumentative essays. Propaganda. Rhetoric. Trial advocacy.
Whether at home, at work, in the community or in our various social spaces; whether we’re wooing investors, convincing our spouses to buy a new family car or winning over a tough date—we daily face opportunities to get people to understand and accept our viewpoints. Or to get them to change their thinking, beliefs, opinions, attitudes and behaviours. Or to get them to act on our ideas. Or to get them take some action.
To accomplish any of these is difficult because the people we try to reach may be uninformed, apathetic, hostile or a fine mix of these.
But learning how to do it; understanding how it can be done; hearing how others did it; seeing how others did it—accessing a bank of knowledge and a wealth of examples—turns this difficulty on its own head and makes what looked so difficult to become so easy. It’s all about ‘the how.’ It’s all in ‘the how.’
This is the anticipated aim of this workshop.
Tough call, isn’t it?
